Dennis Lightning, manager of Ridgeons League Division One club Ely City, pulled off something of a coup with the signing of Brady Stone (pictured) from Nationwide South side Cambridge City.
The young centre back could play a vital role if Ely are to return to the Premier Division in 2007.
“We have set our sights on the top six and hopefully beyond but we are not putting pressure on the lads by talking about promotion,” said Lightning.
“Last season we dropped twenty-one points to teams in the bottom six but did well against the better sides and you can’t afford to give points away like that.
“This season I believe we have a team of lads who are willing to roll up their sleeves and get stuck in,” he added.
Ely’s opening game was at home to promotion-favourites Tiptree United, and Lightning would have been delighted with a comprehensive 3-0 win.
“It was a great start,” said Lightning.
